Brown Willy

Brown Willy

Brown Willy is the highest point in Cornwall — 420 metres above sea level, rising quietly from the empty moor north of Bolventor. The name comes from the Cornish *Bronn Wennili*, 'hill of swallows'. Walk up from Roughtor in the company of hardy moorland ponies, and on a clear day both coasts are visible from the summit cairn. The peat, granite tors, and big moorland skies of Bodmin make this a different Cornwall to the coastal cliché — empty, elemental, and rarely crowded.
