Botallack

The Crowns engine houses at Botallack are arguably the most cinematic ruin in Cornwall — two granite chambers perched on a thin ledge above the Atlantic, hoisting ore from mines that ran out under the seabed. Tin and copper were worked here into the 1890s, and in the 2010s Botallack stood in for Wheal Leisure in Poldark. It's part of the Cornish Mining UNESCO World Heritage Site and managed by the National Trust. The footpath from Botallack village brings you out above the cliffs; the light at evening does the rest.
