Newlyn is the biggest fishing port in the south-west of England — a working harbour of beam trawlers, net boats, and shellfish boats landing catch onto Britain's busiest fish market daily. The Newlyn School of painters (Stanhope Forbes, Walter Langley) gathered here from the 1880s onwards. Mackerel skies, fish sheds, and the smell of diesel and salt.
