Summerleaze is the beach at the heart of Bude, on Cornwall's far north coast — a crescent of pale sand with rainbow-painted beach huts lined along the edge and a 1930s sea pool cut into the rock at its south end. The pool fills with each high tide and gives Bude one of the most distinctive swims in Britain. Behind the beach the Bude Canal runs inland through the town. Long days of Atlantic surf and a seaside-town feel that's stayed defiantly un-chic.
