East Looe and West Looe face each other across the river that gives the town its name — a busy south-coast harbour of fishing boats, ice-cream queues, and day-trippers over from Plymouth. Looe Island lies a mile offshore, a bird reserve with a handful of residents. The working fish market still lands catch onto the quay at dawn.
