About Jago Praze

Jago Praze is a contemporary Cornish artist whose life has been shaped by the coastal landscapes of Mousehole, Penzance, and Newlyn. Drawing inspiration from his experiences at sea, he captures the essence of harbour life, transforming memories of boats and beacons into vivid paintings that evoke a deep sense of place and time.

With a self-taught approach, Jago has developed a unique studio practice that reflects the rich marine tradition of Cornwall. His work resonates with the elements of the coast, utilizing the textures and colors found in weathered boats and the shifting moods of the sea to create captivating visual narratives.

Jago Praze paints the sea as if recalled through salt-stiff hands: boats tip upward, harbours fold in on themselves, and lighthouses stand like white pegs against black-green water. His body of work utilizes naive marine geometry, weathered ship-paint surfaces, and a stubbornly limited palette to make each scene feel found, salvaged, and remembered rather than observed.
