About Conan Treloar

Conan Treloar is a contemporary Cornish painter who works between a draughty studio above Penzance harbour and winter lodgings near the sandy dunes at Hayle. His art transforms the beach, boatyard, and bathing pool into scenes of primitive theatre, where figures and vessels emerge as rough signs etched into light.

Rather than merely depicting the coast, Treloar distills its essence, revealing the raw pressure of charcoal, vibrant bursts of colour, and the stark whiteness of the canvas. His approach brings forth a visceral connection to the coastal landscape, imbuing his work with a sense of urgency and life.

Conan Treloar creates striking coastal abstractions where bathers, harbour boats, and cliff-edge figures are distilled into urgent charcoal scrawls and bold blocks of colour. His compositions evoke a raw, weather-beaten quality, portraying the Cornish coast as a stage for human experience and elemental forces.
